Living Costs

Information about living costs

Studying in Germany is relatively expensive, because living costs are rather high.   Students must reckon with monthly outgoings of €500 to €600.

Typical monthly payments are shown below:
Rent                            c. €200
Health insurance         c. €55
Groceries (minimum)       €175
Semester fees                €24
Possible study fees        €108

There are, of course, also costs for books, photocopies, the telephone, clothing and free-time activities.

Keep in mind that during the first week of your stay in Germany,
the costs incurred will be even higher.   For instance, you will
have to pay fees to get your residence permit, a deposit on your
flat (usually consisting of 2 months rent), dictionaries and other
books, etc. which can quickly exceed €600!
